The ancestors of our gold and silversmiths came many generations ago
from the eastern Himalaya of Nepal to Kathmandu to make jewelry for the Kings and their families. Their 'caste' or tribe is named Sunar - which means
Goldsmith. The oldest goldsmith tells us that as far back as he knows, at least six generations, that their craft was passed from father to son. The
wife of our head goldsmith, also mother to our three other goldsmiths is an
expert beader, able to crochet and knit gold, silver and beads into intricate
rope and free-form necklaces and bracelets.
Lola Dragonfly has been making jewelry since she was 12. She later
expanded her art and design knowledge graduating with a Master's of Interdisciplinary Arts from a University in the US. She has lived in Nepal
for eight years.
